Schools in the Chula Vista Elementary School District Receive Large Book Donation, Thanks to ABC 10News

Students in the Chula Vista School District are on their way to becoming bookworms thanks to ABC 10News’s generous donations to John J. Montgomery and Harborside elementary schools. Employees from the station donated money from their own paychecks to the “If You Give a Child a Book” campaign created by the Scripps Howard Foundation.

The foundation works to increase childhood literacy by giving more opportunities to children to acquire and read books. The two schools at CVESD were lucky enough to be on the receiving end of approximately 4,000 children’s books donated from the foundation. The books are being distributed to students throughout the schools to encourage reading skill development.

Montgomery Principal Lydia Burgos commented on the exciting contribution from the news station and foundation saying, “With this donation, we will continue to work toward developing literacy skills and a love for reading. You truly make a difference for us, and we are extremely grateful!”

The Chula Vista Elementary School District is thankful for the generous donations from ABC 10News and the exciting opportunities they give students within the district to expand their reading capabilities.
